South America: Our Spanish Family & Quito Churches

A quick note to let you all know we are alive and well in Quito. Please respond to this email with a simple, "Received your email" so that I know I have the correct addresses. And of course if you want to send more to us by way of my email or your mom´s please do.

Esponal is muy duro para me pero sus madre is muy good con Esponal. Our first week has been intense: breakfast at 7:30 with Daniel who speaks less English than I do Spanish; 8:30 to 12:30 is one on one lessons with a 20 minute break around 10:30; lunch and the main meal at 1:30 with Amparo, Daniel and their daughter, Eloise -- lunch is typically an hour long talking Spanish; most afternoons we then study; two hours in the late afternoon is dancing or cooking or touring all in Spanish; back to the house for a light dinner of bread/fruit/and a sandwich slice of ham plus a piece of cheese -- usually another hour of speaking Spanish; and then up to our room to study more Spanish.

This weekend we will spend in Otovalo, arrive back in Quito about 5:00 and caught an overnight bus to Le Selva for Monday through Friday. Following week is to the beach and fourth week is Cuenca -- all the while taking Spanish lessons.

The churches/catherolds in Quito you would not believe the insides. Any one church has more gold leafing than I have seen in my entire life! The weather has been very pleasant, hight sixties during the day and low 40s at night.

Will, please ask Jen to forward Pat K -- real estate, email address to us. Also ask Jen to send us an email just letting us know if she is having problems or no problems with our affairs. Does Jen have an email address? Forgot to ask your mom before I left for the internet cafe.

Best to all,
Tom
